Reddit has become an amazing source of information in a world where it’s very easy to head in the wrong direction, therefore some topics get lost to time.

In today’s internet ecosystem information can be very hard to dig up at times. Thankfully we have long standing established platforms like Reddit to help with the niche topics we all have problems with. Just recently I used reddit to help with a mouse problem that was extremely obscure, with a little digging surely enough my problem was solved.
Reddit isn’t just used for solving problems though, there has been amazing conversations about nearly every topic you can think of. Some topics get lost or forgotten, that’s exactly what we’re going to dive into today. About 2-3 years ago I was browsing Reddit and came across a post on r/lostmedia regarding the rumored shutdown of Soundcloud in 2017. The reason this topic interested me is because a user by the name of u/boh045 pointed out that someone had downloaded the entirety of the Soundcloud library in 2017 before the shutdown. "Back in 2017 there was this big talk of SoundCloud being shut down (which never happened obviously) but the main thing that really shocked me back then was how quick someone downloaded the site's entire library, and sent a link to a 100 GB log file onto Reddit to prove its legitimacy."
When I had originally read that statement I was totally interested, they initially linked a news article you can view here. Now at face value you might not find that crazy, but when you think about the potential underground gems that are hidden or lost that might be preserved on a hard drive somewhere is pretty interesting. Think of your favorite song or unreleased snippet that could also be preserved as well, the possibility of that alone was intriguing.
Someone out there might have your grail of a track and we might not ever see it. Similar posts like these are what inspired me to talk about more underground lost media. In the future we’ll dive into some older posts and lost media that others might not be aware of.
