We're kicking off 2026 with an artist you need to keep your attention on. In this exclusive Music Mondays article we break down Spark and why you should keep this song in your rotation.
1/23/26
From my perspective, Cece Natalie is essentially the sad diva of the music scene. Many of her top streamed songs aren’t sad on the surface, but quite a few lyrics are when you turn your ear past both the confidence in her delivery, and choice of instrumentals. Her single ‘Spark’ is a perfect example.
This song was released at the end of November, and it has remained one of my most played songs throughout the past two months that it’s been out. ‘Spark’ sounds like a song about an ex, the first lines are expressing how she liked them because they never cared about her, and there’s this repeating phrase “In a small time I lived a long life”. The whole time she’s kicking this song off so nonchalant, so catchy that you have to either sing or hum along; I didn’t even realize it was one of her sadder songs until the chorus where she goes
“Nuh-uh uh-uh uh-uh uh uh
Losing my spark”
My personal bias may draw me towards the sadder songs in all of my favorite artists, but there is truly something to be said for the unique, carefree manner in which Cece Natalie pulls off her sad songs. She seems to approach sadder themes the same as any other song she makes. It's something that I noticed first on her Miss Behaves project, and has left me excited to see how she evolves her sound in the coming projects.
