DRKIA is the rarest of them all and I am under her spell. Self-described “Fairy Grunge” is a perfect description for her ethereal offering. DRKIA is a 4-language sensation and self taught singer, songwriter, rapper and producer. DRKIA’s music feels like a fairytale. She has a heartfelt sound with genuine soul- goosebump inducing intonation accompanying delicate and completely original lyrics and melodies. Her lyrics (or at least the ones in english that i can understand!) cut deep and evoke a sense of melancholy and joy in equal parts. Her songs are sincere and beautiful, her ability to seamlessly switch into other languages gives her a futuristic edge but the music is timeless. There's a Y2K vibe for sure but what DRKIA creates from the Y2K vibe is a great addition to the pop-scene but also completely something new.

The song LKNL stands for Love Knows No Limit. LKNL glides smoothly in gorgeous structured rap verses taking you through Finnish, Russian, English and French seamlessly and is honestly DIVINE. DRKIA draws influence from FKA Twigs, Sega Bodega and Shy Girl but is absolutely in a whole lane of her own. Her aesthetic in both the stunning 3d original graphics, music videos and fashion to match her cyber-fairy vibe immaculately. The accompanying visuals hosted on her Youtube channel are simply stunning and match the music in quality. Lines like “Only love fills the hole” “Stronger than the thunder” jump out among the sea of interchanging foreign language lyrics and depending on your multilingual abilities there is so much to offer depending on who the listener is. Visiting the lyric video translation is a must for English speakers! See for yourself, I dare you not to be blown away.
(Un)Bound tells the story of love lost. It’s pure and heartfelt but devoid of naivety, just self-facing introspection and heartache. “I don’t think you’re still beautiful” “retuning to you but i don’t want to” tells a sore story of a lover scorned and in the depth of their despair still knowing their worth and taking the courage to move on although the heart and mind are still taking the time to align to one another. DRKIA is absolutely no sucker for love but her reflection on a lost love gives breathing room and dignity to heartache. DRKIA takes the listeners hand through a fairytale world without a happy ending but leaves you feeling soothed. Her inflection is soft and sweet, not quite a whisper but smooth as the waterfalls featured in the gorgeous music video that accompanies this tune. Seriously, you need to watch the music video! Rarely does an independent artist take on such an ambitious project and absolutely nails it. Watching DRKIA perform (Un)bound in the music video is like stepping into a fairy ring, the camera work, lighting and sheer quality, faithfulness to her vision is admirable and captivating. Her precarious placement in her fairy-fit on a mossy stone over a waterfall is like nothing I've ever seen, even for an industry backed artist this would be a very impressive accomplishment- even more so mind-blowing that she is an independent artist.
If there was any justice in the world DRKIA would be blowing up with millions of views. She is criminally underrated so please do show some love and take the time to enjoy her spectacular offerings. DRKIA is just as beautiful as she is talented;-which is to say a great deal on both counts. For an emerging artist she has more than you can possibly bargain for. With only two songs out I am thoroughly hungry for more and you will be too. Many female artists get compared to fairies but DRKIA truly IS a fairy by every measure and she is best enjoyed with the magical forest visuals and flawless fantasy fashion outfits. She is what the world wants but for now is hidden, do yourself a favour and step into DRKIA’s world as soon as possible! Her music and her whole vibe is a life affirming elixir served with real depth and courage. I am so excited to see what will come next from the heart and mind of DRKIA and am certain she could be among one of the rare artists to hit mainstream success in the coming years if she should be so kind as to keep shining her light with us mere mortals.
