To mark this occasion (and to save from bursting into tears) we take a look at some of David Lynch’s musical creations.

Director David Lynch will forever be remembered as a pioneer of surrealism in cinema, with landmark works like Mulholland Drive, Twin Peaks, and Blue Velvet. Sadly, his soul has transcended our mortal plane for a full twelve months now, and the world will never be the same. David Lynch has long been praised for his broad and experimental tastes in music suit his sophisticated surrealist style of filmmaking.
Through both his films and his personal musical tastes, Lynch earned a reputation as a tastemaker, but what’s less widely known is how hands-on he was when it came to making music himself as a collaborator, solo musician and a composer.
BlueBOB: Lynch & John Neff
A self-released “Industrial Blues” album in 2001 titled BlueBOB, a collaboration with John Neff. The album was recorded at Lynch’s home studio over 23 months from 1998-2000.
The Perfect Drug: Nine Inch Nails
Made for lost highway, you may also be interested to know that David Lynch directed the music video for the track. Lynch stated he enjoyed listening to Nine Inch Nails’ “Gave Up” while working on Lost Highway.
Thought Gang: Lynch & Badalamenti
This list would be amiss without mentioning David’s work with longtime collaborator Angelo Badalamenti, whose compositions feature heavily throughout Lynch’s films, including Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me and Mulholland Drive. Thought Gang was formed in 1991 and consists of twelve tracks recorded between 1991–1992. In August 2021, Xiu Xiu released a cover of “A Real Indication” with artwork referencing Twin Peaks.
Cellophane Memories: Lynch & Chrystabell
A collaboration between David Lynch and singer-songwriter Chrystabell. Released in 2016.
Crazy Clown Time: David Lynch (Solo)
David Lynch’s debut solo album Crazy Clown Time, released in 2011. Lynch’s first full-length solo release.
Lady Blue Shanghai For Dior: Lynch & Dean Hurley
A track famously used in Dior’s 2010 Lady Blue Shanghai campaign. There’s also an accompanying short film from 2010 which can be found on youtube.
The Soundtrack Of Eraserhead: David Lynch & Alan Splet
David Lynch co-composed the sound design and music for Eraserhead alongside sound designer Alan Splet.The soundtrack consists of original compositions, industrial soundscapes, and environmental audio created specifically for the film. Lynch has stated that the film’s sound was developed over several years during post-production.
I'm Waing Here: David Lynch & Lykke L & Dean Hurley
A collaborative single featuring Lykke Li. Released in 2013 and included on The Big Dream.
Fire Is Coming: David Lynch & Flying Lotus
A collaborative track released in 2018. The song features spoken vocals by Lynch.
