Today marks the release of the first release from Kris Russ since his astonishing 2024 EP, "A Concequence To The Human Condition". That being said, come turn back time just enough with me, to experience "A Concequence To The Human Condition"
3/21/25
This project starts with an introduction called "Karma". Mostly a vocal introduction, the stage is set with a character suggesting that our artist has done too much damage, that karma or the speaker has come to take Kris away.
Time, the second track of the EP, entrances the listener in Kris' longing for acceptance in a world filled by mistakes. In a lane all his own in Southern Louisiana music, Kris brings together post punk instrumentation with vocals from what feel like a screaming subconscious. The song leans into an emotional approach to something we are all scared to be open about and bring it to the surface, beautifully.
Track 3, Choke, seems to retrace steps of the end of a relationship, but this time, ironically pushing the relationship away. In what feels like an oder to Movements, the hook captivated local media algorithms, with everyone shouting "I Hope You Choke". Moving out of the second hook, a mesmerizing guitar riff begins that gives "Castlevania", and is by far my favorite part of this song. If you weren’t ready for more by now, Choke will have listeners ready for this EP without question.
Bleed opens the second half of the project as Kris assumes the worst and asks the hard questions such as "What is it that you stop and think about?". The listener can enjoy the masterful writing that keeps Kris Russ relevant in today's music scene, while feeling the emotion he bring to the table easily. This song might get you in your head a bit more than you're used to, but with reason. These perspectives need to be heard.
Finally, the project hits the breaks on the pain, and introduces Wilt. My favorite song on the EP, Wilt is a great anthem for those that don't want to give up on each other. Softer than the other songs, this track is a lovely feel good instrumental, with meaningful lyrics to match. A true testament to "Teamwork Makes The Dream Work".
The last song on this astonishing EP, "Whatever. (Squall Leonheart)" finishes off in an existential crisis with soothing vocals that Kris Russ has been able to achieve since starting out. A wish for happiness in a world so cold, the song wraps all the feelings in this project into one song, singing lines like "I just don't feel alive". If you enjoy feeling like you're right beside an artist through their journey, this song is for you. The track ends on what sounds like the original take for it, in a way to connect to the audience, which it succeeds in.
"A Concequence To The Human Condition" in full is around fifteen minutes of emotion and grit that are a testament to the dedication Kris Russ is willing to put into his musical journey. From my view, it truly seems like Kris Russ is ready for the next level of his career, whatever that might be. From soft, acoustic guitar tracks in the vein of emo and even gospel sounds, to this newer taste of a more aggressive vocals and pop punk instrumentals, were ready to follow whatever he does and are very excited for it.
That being said, Kris Russ dropped three new singles on an album today, so go stream this project and "NEVER CARED.." today!
