In this exclusive Music Mondays article we break down 3 tracks that have been on Blank Thoughts radar.

It’s been an incredibly busy month. I just finished and released my new project Old Muse with Monzy the Terrible, and it is the first of a couple. This month I come to you with 3 songs that I want to touch on because they have been stuck in my head!
Bright Moments by Sunmundi produced Sasco
This is probably my pick for song of the year so far, because this track truly blew me away upon release. Playing like a broken transmission from an alternate universe, Contacting is a tour de force in modern hip hop. I’m planning on covering this project in more detail so we can delve into it further, but this album & track are some of the best I’ve heard in a long time. Sasco sets the standard with his incredibly layered & catchy production & the rapping does not disappoint in the slightest. Sunmundi’s pained and expressive delivery shines through over otherworldly synths & a hypnotic bass line. Multiple lines from this resonate well beyond listening, with his writing leaving a palpable imprint on my mind after listening. Something I really appreciate about this song is that it allows you to live in its world for a full three minutes of rapping. The vocal samples layered throughout add a ton of texture & this song feels uncorked and triumphant in how dynamic the mix allows. There have been a lot of words written recently about Sunmundi as a writer and rapper, and none of them do him justice. Contacting is a must listen for any rap fans looking for something to truly feel, and both of these artists are amongst the best working in music today.
Should’ve brought the express pass… by whereisfox produced by shemar
I got the chance to hear this track and album early, and this track is still the one. The murkiness to this beat has hooked me from the first time I heard it, & fox’s voice contrasts with it perfectly. whereisfox is an incredibly unique artist, and this is the perfect tone setter for an incredible project. This, paired with some really clever writing and wrestling references, this is my kind of song. He’s an artist I’ve been a fan of for a very long time and am happy to call a close collaborator now, and this is easily still my favorite track of his. Multiple lines on this song live rent free in my head, just as emotive as they are effective. Long nights fade to early mornings, and this is my soundtrack for those late nights and surreal moments. Shemar’s production here deserves its own paragraph, but there’s a real groove to the way this chop unfolds. I love how distinct and muddy it is while still maintaining that clarity. This is not an easy beat to catch, either, and fox seems to find what feels like the perfect pocket. Both fox & shemar are artists to look out for in the near future, I have a feeling the best is yet to come.
Gooby Cat ($$$$) by Teller Bank$ produced by q no rap name, Philth Spector, Killer Kane & Ayashi[!]
Teller Bank$ is one of the best artists working today, and a careful production crew gave him one of his best soundscapes to date here. DRUG$$$ represents what is probably my favorite work of his to date, and this song is my favorite at the moment. Teller’s slick bars over this buttery smooth beat make this an incredibly easy listen, gliding through the beat with ease. Teller’s mic presence truly sounds immense with the great mix and his trademark charisma. Though we don’t find him at the place where he’s attempting to wow you with technicality, this level of ease translates to something even more impressive. The way the rhymes are delivered off the cuff with a slick sense of purpose while maintaining the intensity he’s well known for. The production comes with a really interesting story in its own right, with it being handled by a team instead of the single-producer trend. The team consisting of q no rap name, Philth Spector, Killer Kane & Ayashi [!] absolutely knocks it out of the park. These piano & drum chops are deceptively impressive, with each coming at the exact time needed to keep the unique groove that drew me to this track. Each detail has been pored over and that’s the real benefit to this style of production. The production team behind this track was full of talent, and it's really impressive the level of perfect minimalism they allow while also making each tiny contribution memorable. Teller is an artist I’m very happy to see finally getting the attention they deserve, and I cannot wait for what’s next.
