You can always rely on life, perspective changing music to be tucked away in the corners of various music streaming platforms. For me currently, it’s Camille Keller, and rogergoon, two slightly enigmatic artists based in Brussels, Belgium. The two frequent collaborators have been steadily crafting their art, making waves that have reached far beyond the Belgium underground scene in just the past few years; they also are a major influence behind the subject of this write-up. You see, tucked a bit further beneath the general mess that is a streaming service’s homepage, thrives Washington's Steve Miller Fan. The guitar based  ‘side project’ of artist Kenopro79 has likely the best music they have ever made- a good reason to look forward to the upcoming Steve Miller Fan album.

The two latest Steve Miller Fan tracks are subject for today specifically, the first being “shut the door”. This song is lavish, heartfelt, and more than anything it- along with all Steve Miller Fan music, feels genuine in all aspects. It is seriously refreshing given the current state of the scene, but there is no need to bring ‘music politics’ into this piece. “Shut  the door” begins with just a pretty guitar chord, piano that fades in and out of prominence throughout as well, and then at 15 seconds the singing starts. The opening line reads,

“We let you go

Well who could have known

Where you’d go

Grown colder than ice and snow”

It’s really beautiful how this one- to me, portrays the bitter hurt that often can come when a relationship inevitably changes with time. Not a single word or second is wasted here, the song is perfect.

“For instance” is the name of the second track. This dreamy one feels introspective to a degree, I really like the line,

“Deep in your Thoughts what is the difference

Between what you know and the feelings of inference”

Gorgeous guitar work is of course accompanying the song’s lyrics, the cohesive aspect of any given Steve Miller Fan track. The both of these songs are some of my personal favorites this year. All three of the newest Steve Miller Fan singles have collectively reminded me of the magic of music. If you like real music, you need both of these songs, and if you listen to them and like them, you’re nearly doing a disservice to yourself by not checking out rogergoon and Camille Keller as well. Their song “Red of Joy” is peak music and a prime example of their collaborations. Go support Steve Miller Fan.
