COWZ: The UK’s very own C*NTY revolution in the making

Cowz began their journey three years ago in 2021 in Brighton, England, and consists of the  vivacious and alluring duo: Tasha Bloom and Saga Wahlström. Boldly hitting the scene with a big impact and making it look effortless- this dynamic duo is shaping up to be one of the most interesting, versatile and fun pop music acts from the UK in a very long time. They’re absolutely dripping with authenticity and their success is only a reflection of their brave explorations into the sometimes dark psyche of modern women. Don’t let the glitter fool you, things can get gorey.

Their music has been described as ‘Bubble-gum pop in dire need of therapy’ by Davide Wheller of Asbo magazine and ‘psychotic’ by Radio 1’s Jack Saunders but first and foremost their latest project ‘Thats cute! Baby’ is a pioneering force to be reckoned with and a girl-coded masterpiece. They’re scaring the men with this one and we’re here for it.

Their latest EP “That’s cute! Baby” is performing incredibly well for an early work with over 100k listens on spotify and the quality of work absolutely reflects that. Five bangers, no skips, no lack of depth whatsoever. There is something incredibly special about this duo and world domination is well within their reach. It’s an incredibly difficult feat to go so far against the grain without a compromise of listenability and Cowz hits every note. My personal favourite;- track five ‘Psychos’ is edgy and smooth at once. The marvelously bold yet charming hook “It’s not my fault you fall for psychos” has stuck with me from the first instance that I heard it. The production value on the entire project is mind-blowing, the engineering is radio ready, this charming and feisty duo are primed and ready to blow up into the stratosphere.

Another track from ‘That’s cute! Baby’ I really love is ‘Rosalie’: which features the lyric ‘That’s cute! Baby’ from the EP’s title. Inspired by the character of the same name of the Twilight Film franchise. In the Twilight film series the character Rosalie is saved from death by being turned into a vampire after a brutal attack- which almost takes her life. A big point of transformation for the character is the inner turmoil that comes about as a result of being saved against her will and being forced to live on with her trauma. Cowz transmutes the pain experienced by Rosalie and embodies the nightmare of surviving violent trauma that is somehow both harrowing and touching. ‘Rosalie’ is a full-on immersive conceptual adventure and incredibly dynamic from start to finish. From “Sorry honey there’s no escape” to “I’ll hunt you down” the lyrics tell the story of Rosalie through a relatable lens and embodies a sort of Tarentino style revenge fantasy. Impossible to pin down to one genre it's a blend of familiar and unfamiliar sounds in contrast to one another. The distinct sections are full of contrast ever shifting between dark and light. The full music video to accompany is certainly worth a watch, it is just as stunning and high quality in production value as the accompanying song and can be found here.

If you like pop music with a side of guts and grit- Cowz is for you. Highly recommended for fans of artists such as Chappel Roan and Charlie XCX - Cowz provides a unique offering which challenges the status quo while also fitting perfectly into the existing 2020’s pop landscape.
