Vincent Paragano Interview

In this exclusive Music Mondays Interview we got the chance to sit down with veteran vocalist and producer Vincent Paragano. We caught up with them and discussed everything from their early years, 2024 and plans for the future.

9/13/24

Zomb: First things first, where are you from and how old are you?

Vincent: I’m 29 years old & I’m from Yardley, PA

Zomb: East coast native I see, what was it like growing up in Pennsylvania? Tell us a little bit about your upbringing and your early years.

Vincent: Looking back, I feel grateful that I grew up in Yardley. It’s a small town with a Starbucks, a Wawa, and a ton of great mom-and-pop restaurants. If you ever find yourself in the area, check out Vince’s Pizza & Canal Street Grille. There’s also this beautiful canal you can walk or bike along. I’m the oldest of three. Growing up, my mother was a stay-at-home mom and my father worked full-time. They both loved music and introduced my siblings and I to many great artists.

Zomb: We love to hear that, solid come up for sure. Those smaller towns always have good vibes on the east. Speaking of artists, who were some of your favorites growing up and who were some of your early influences?

Vincent: That’s very true. My parents loved artists like Matchbox 20, The Police, Billy Joel, Styx, Santana, Bruce Springsteen, Jewel, Sarah McLachlan, The Cars, Journey, Dean Martin. I was taking in all of that from a young age. Two of my favorite artists that made me want to start writing music were Billy Joel & Depeche Mode. I loved the way in which they told stories and sang about life’s experiences and emotions. I remember hearing 52nd Street by Billy Joel and seeing the music video for People Are People by Depeche Mode and being in awe.

Zomb: Such legendary names, what great eras to learn about. So when did you actually start creating music of your own early on? Did you start with vocals or instruments? How did creating come about early on?

Vincent: When I was in high school, my parents divorced and music became my lifeline through that. Around that time, I discovered M83 and found myself inspired by how they captured life’s emotions with ambient synthesizers. I downloaded Logic and began writing instrumentals with that vibe. I began solely as a music producer. I was also listening to artists like PARTYNEXTDOOR & The Weeknd who planted that urge to sing and tell my stories within me.

Zomb: That’s fantastic, what a great use of energy. So after production when did vocals come in? At what point did you decide you actually wanted to pursue music in a more serious fashion?

Vincent: Making music became my therapy. Through social media, I met Dre Kiken and Trwubblenaut. Dre had a song out called “Always” that I loved. We made a project together called “Dead Roses.” Through them, I met friends of theirs who also made music: Rob Diamond, Barrrt, Marley. We made songs together. This was all 2016-2018. I loved what they did with their vocals and found myself inspired to take that jump by singing myself. As I said, I was listening to The Weeknd, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Drake, NAV, Martin Gore & Dave Gahan from Depeche Mode. I put all those influences together and found my sound. I started a SoundCloud and began uploading tracks. I was always serious about music from the beginning. I was just trying to find my path with it.

Zomb: Such a passionate start, you just needed to find your footing. So following 2018, eventually you started promoting yourself more and more. Did you keep releasing a steady stream of content? You were also going by a different artist name back than right?

Vincent: Exactly. Yeah I put out a project “Love” featuring these artists and a track which I sang on. I was also dropping singles on SoundCloud. I was studying music production & business at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia so overall I was just learning how to navigate in these new spaces. By 2019, I had gotten into the SoundCloud alternative scene, artists like Lil Peep, Lil Tracy, GBC, nothing, nowhere. I loved how these artists had a way to keep their creative and personal lives separate via their stage name. I wanted to do the same. I began releasing songs as CRYLITTLESISTER. I lost my grandmother to cancer and I was navigating a toxic relationship so this persona was my outlet for that.

Zomb: The CRYLITTLESISTER days were absolutely insane. At what point did you change your artist name after that?

Vincent: Yeah they were. I graduated college and found myself at my lowest point. Newly single, grieving my grandmother passing, I didn’t want to go on. I laid in bed most days and contemplated ending my life. I remember calling my mom crying, confessing my intentions. I had a breakthrough of some kind. I found a therapist and started learning how to become comfortable with myself for the first time. I wanted to shed the trauma of that time so I decided to return back to my real name.

Zomb: Wow, so there was substantial meaning behind the name change not just a normal switch up. That’s fantastic. So with your new name in place, what direction did you start heading with your new found energy? Did you keep releasing singles and pushing forward?

Vincent: Yeah so around this time—2020–I met my wife. We began dating amidst the pandemic and she got me into meditation and the power of positive energy and intention. That became my foundation which carried into my music. I began seeing the angel number 333 a lot which led me to releasing my album “3:33” in 2021. I wanted to capture the peace I found personally amongst an uncertain time in the world. Music has always been my solace. I wanted to present myself as authentically as possible in hopes my music could be the same for those listening.

Zomb: All the pieces started coming together, that’s so sick. So following 2021 leading into present day, what is your current schedule like and how has 2024 been for you?

Vincent: In 2021, I married my best friend. The following year, I became a father. I’m moving with gratitude. Every day, I wake up thankful. I’m just trying to be the best me I can be. I dropped some great songs this year featuring my favorite artists and I’m currently working on my next album. It’s like I said in my song “Life is Something”: “I never thought I’d be this lucky, finding peace with those that love me.” I’m so grateful for my wife, my son, family, and friends. Life is such a blessing.

Zomb: That’s such a strong place to be, I’m so happy to hear everything worked out for the better. So we’re in present day 2024, you mentioned you’re working on an album in the background. What are some of your plans for the upcoming winter and rest of 2024?

Vincent: Thanks man. Want to give you and everyone at Music Mondays thanks for all the support through the tough times. For the rest of 2024, I’ve got more music coming. More videos coming. More moments are coming. Don’t want to speak on it too much now but rest assured, more great things are on the way. I also want to recommend all the recent great music from my peers: “Before You Move On” from Esseo, “Tell Me” by Brandon Leland, “You’re Gonna Want To Sit Down For This” by hay:u & Cameron Tallchief, “Wander” and “Beginnings” by Elemnt, “Beautiful Feeling” by Holy Mountain.

Zomb: Of course! It’s been such a crazy journey for all of us and it’s great to be on the other side. So let’s talk about your creative process for a second, how long does it particularly take for you create song that’s ready for release? Tell us a little bit about your process.

Vincent: I couldn’t agree more. I’ve used to spend hours at a time writing a song but I’ve learned to work much faster, especially with a little one at home. Now, I can write within an hour. I’ll then test out my mix in headphones and in my car and sit with it for a bit. Within a few days, I’ll have designed the album art and created the promotional material accompanying the music.

Zomb: Such a solid rollout schedule, love that process super clean and simple. What has been your favorite song you’ve created? Released or unreleased.

Vincent: Thanks. My favorite song I’ve released is “Free,” one I made with rapper and singer Mike McGovern. It’s all about elevating your vibrations and frequency. I built the beat by sampling one I had on my flash drive from years ago. Mike laid down this uplifting verse. Unreleased, I’m into this new song for my upcoming album called “Hold Me Now.” It’s this gospel-influenced track where I sing about overcoming depression. It features rapper Brandon Forgione. He’s also a director and recently released these amazing Punisher fan films. Can’t wait to share my new album with the world. It’s a very heart-on-my-sleeve record. I’m turning 30 in March so it’s very existential haha

Zomb: Such great picks, definitely will give the people something to look out for. So pivoting away from music for a second, what are you usually doing when you aren’t creating or being a family man. What keeps your mind occupied or keeps you sane?

Vincent: Yes definitely. Outside of music and family life, I enjoy reading books and watching movies. The Beetlejuice sequel is finally out after hoping for it for years so I’m excited to see that. I also enjoy visiting with my family. I have my grandparents, my siblings, and parents close by thankfully.

Zomb: Sometimes it really is the simple things in life that bring the most pleasure. My last question for you is, who are your top 5 artists of all time? No specific order.

Vincent: I agree completely. Getting to share a meal with the ones you love…nothing better. My top five artists of all time would be Billy Joel, PARTYNEXTDOOR, The Weeknd, Drake, and Martin Gore of Depeche Mode.

Zomb: Such a stacked list with a ton of variety, love that. So before we log off do you have any shoutouts or words of motivation? The floor is yours.

Vincent: Thanks. I want to give a shoutout to my wife for her support. To anyone out there who’s struggling or feeling like they want to give up, I want to say that the world needs you, now more than ever. Keep going, even if that means getting out of bed, doing the dishes, or making yourself a meal. You’re always enough. Also, don’t get discouraged if you have setbacks in your journey. You may have those that are a part of your life for a chapter or two and that’s ok. Celebrate your wins and learn from your losses. Don’t let anyone tell you you can’t do something and above all else, there’s no age limit in this. I’ve been chasing my dream since I was 18 and at 29, I’m finally seeing results from all those seeds I planted years ago. Enjoy the journey, spread love wherever you go, and move with gratitude.

Zomb: I couldn’t have said it better myself, absolutely great words of motivation. Thank you so much for taking time to sit down with us at Music Mondays and we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for new Vincent!

Vincent: Thanks again for the opportunity. New music on the way. I have so much love for Music Mondays and all you’re doing. You’ve been there since day one and you provide an invaluable platform for artists. Looking forward to what’s to come from you as well.
